Cold Air Intake Fix
(Click images to increase size)I would like to share an experience I had with a cold air kit from K&N. After I installed the kit, I had this really annoying drivability problem. Intermittently, it would stall when stopping at a light. It also bucked while cruising on the highway. If you accelerate it runs fine. I looked for any codes that may have been set in DME, and checked adaptation values. There were no codes and running values were all in line. After some brain storming, I remember a track guy had problems with his air mass meter (AMM). He had to add length to his intake tube in order for the air to cross the hot wire assembly evenly, giving the DME a more accurate air mass reading. Instead of increasing the air intake tube I thought I would just use the screen from an AMM to do the same job. So I found an old AMM that had the same diameter as the K&N intake tube. I then cut the screen section off and slid it into air tube. It fit nice and snug! Perfect fit! The air filter cone went over the screen assembly nicely. I was able to secure the cone just like before. Now for the test drive! It worked! The bucking and stalling stopped! What a relief. I thought I would have to put the stock air filter unit back on. Ok, back to fixing customer cars.
